What Florida asks of you

Florida calls it biomedical waste and runs it through Chapter 64E-16 of the Florida Administrative Code. A short guide, for orientation.

A permit from your county

Facilities that generate biomedical waste apply for an annual permit to the county health department where the business sits. Here that is the Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County.
The 25-pound exemption

A facility that can document less than 25 lbs in every 30-day period over the previous 12 months can qualify for an exemption from the permit. The rest of the rule still applies.
30 days on site

Biomedical waste may not be stored at the generating facility for more than 30 days, so the pickup schedule has to keep up.
A plan and trained staff

Facilities keep a written biomedical waste operating plan. Staff are trained before they handle the waste and take a refresher every year.
