What a testing center generates
Most of the stream is small and contaminated: swabs, cassettes, cartridges, tubes and collection devices, plus the draw sharps from any phlebotomy done on site.
The characteristic problem is surge. A center sized for a normal month can double or triple its volume in a public health event, which is why we set intervals that can be changed on a phone call rather than written into a contract.

The standards are the ordinary ones. It is the surge capacity that trips centers up, not the rule text.
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1030 covers containers, labeling, PPE and the exposure control plan.
Florida caps on-site storage at 30 days, and a surge is exactly when facilities drift past it. Alabama works to ADEM Division 335-17.
