What a practice generates

Not much, but all of it regulated

A typical office fills a wall container over weeks, not hours. Immunization syringes, blood draw needles, lancets, a few dressings and the occasional expired sample box. It is a small stream, and it still cannot go in the dumpster.

That is why the choice between scheduled pickup and mail-back matters more here than anywhere else. Under 50 lbs a month, mail-back is usually the cheaper and simpler answer. Above it, a truck on a schedule wins.

The rules behind the containers

A small office carries the same OSHA obligations as a large one. Practice size does not appear in the standard.

  • Bloodborne pathogens

    OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1030 requires a written exposure control plan, reviewed each year, and training for every exposed employee.

  • Containers where the work happens

    Puncture-resistant, labeled containers as close as practical to the point of use, replaced before they overfill.

  • Keep the proof

    Whether waste leaves by truck or by mail, keep the manifest and the destruction record. Both come with the service.

  • Florida's small generator exemption

    A Florida practice documenting under 25 lbs in every 30-day period over the past year can apply to its county health department for an exemption from the biomedical waste permit. The rest of Chapter 64E-16 still applies.

Is our practice too small for a medical waste service?

No. Mail-back was built for offices making 0 to 50 lbs a month, with no minimum purchase and no monthly fee. Many single-provider practices run on one small system.

Do you supply the sharps containers?

Yes. On scheduled pickup the containers and bags come with the service. On mail-back the container is part of the system you buy.

How do we prove the waste was destroyed?

Scheduled pickup leaves a waste manifest and proof of legal destruction. Mail-back sends email tracking from pickup to destruction and an electronic certificate of disposal.

Do you train staff on bloodborne pathogens?

Yes, through the online compliance portal, which also holds your Safety Data Sheets and a safety plan builder.

Are we tied into a contract?
