What a hospital generates
The hard part of hospital waste is not collection, it is segregation. Med-surg fills red bags. The ED fills sharps containers faster than anyone. Pharmacy pulls expired stock that cannot legally go in either. When the wrong thing lands in the wrong bin, you pay disposal rates on ordinary trash and you create a finding for the next survey.

Hospitals answer to more inspectors than anyone else on this list. These are the four that touch waste handling directly.
The Bloodborne Pathogens standard, 29 CFR 1910.1030, governs sharps containers, labeling and the exposure control plan your staff work to.
Employers covered by the standard keep a sharps injury log and review devices each year. Fewer loose sharps in the corridor is the cheapest way to shorten it.
Alabama permits medical waste transport through ADEM. Florida runs biomedical waste through the county health department. Both apply to whoever carries your waste off site.
Hazardous pharmaceutical waste from a healthcare facility is handled under 40 CFR 266 subpart P, separately from red bag waste.
