What Alabama asks of you

Medical waste in Alabama is regulated by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM). Workplace exposure is OSHA's. A short guide to both, for orientation.

  • Who sets the rules

    ADEM's Medical Waste Program, in Division 335-17 of the ADEM Administrative Code. It sets minimum standards for how medical waste is stored, transported, treated and disposed of.

  • Transport needs a permit

    Vehicles that carry untreated medical waste in Alabama must be permitted by ADEM. It is a fair question to ask any hauler you are considering.

  • Records follow the waste

    Every pickup should leave you a manifest and proof of legal destruction. BioMed provides both.

  • Your staff, too

    OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens standard applies to anyone exposed to blood at work. Our compliance portal includes the training course.
