The Florida difference
Florida runs biomedical waste through Chapter 64E-16 of the Florida Administrative Code, and the permit does not come from Tallahassee. A facility applies annually to the county health department where the business sits, so a practice in Crestview deals with Okaloosa and one in Freeport deals with Walton.
Two numbers matter after that. A facility that can document less than 25 lbs of biomedical waste in every 30-day period over the previous twelve months can qualify for an exemption from the permit, though the rest of the rule still applies. And nothing may sit at the generating facility for more than 30 days, which is what the pickup schedule has to keep up with.
