Why the paperwork matters here
MDEQ says so itself. Its medical waste fact sheet states that current regulations do not require the removal and transportation of medical waste to be manifested by the collector, and that medical waste transporters are not currently required to obtain any special licensing or permits.
It also says what a generator should do about that: MDEQ recommends that you require the company collecting your waste to supply certified manifest forms documenting proper management and disposal, and that generator, collector and receiving facility each keep a copy. Collecting the waste does not transfer your responsibility to have chosen a legitimate company. A manifest and proof of legal destruction come with every BioMed pickup, in Mississippi as everywhere else.

Mississippi rules
Mississippi is the loosest of the three states we work in, and that cuts both ways: less to file, and more resting on who you hire.
The Mississippi State Department of Health regulates storage and handling inside your building. MDEQ regulates off-site management, transport and disposal.
MDEQ does not currently require special licensing or permits for medical waste transporters. Checking who you hire matters more here, not less.
MDEQ recommends that generators require certified manifest forms and keep a copy on file. BioMed supplies one with every pickup, with proof of legal destruction.
Solid waste permits generally prohibit municipal disposal facilities from accepting infectious medical waste that has not been rendered non-infectious.
